The room
In 2021 there was a room, and everyone in it was going to be rich. Ghouli was not the smartest person there. He was not the first in, and he was not the loudest. He was just in the room.
The exits
They left one at a time. Some took profit and were called geniuses. Some cut losses and were called sensible. Some just stopped opening the app. Every one of them closed the position. It took about eighteen months for the room to empty.
The last one
He was not holding out of conviction, and he has been very clear about this. He simply never found the day where selling was the thing he did. There was always a reason to check again tomorrow.
The end
He died the way most people do, which is to say not dramatically and not because of a chart. They buried him with the bag. Not out of sentiment — nobody could open his hands.
The tether
A ghost stays when something is unfinished. His position is still open. Until it closes he does not get to go anywhere. He is the only one who can close it. He will not.
October
The veil thins all month. On the first he gets out, barely, half transparent. Every day nearer Halloween, a little more of him comes back. On the thirty-first the veil is gone entirely. For one night nothing separates him from the living, and he is as real as he ever was. The veil comes back in November. He does not leave with it, as long as there are people who believe he is still here.
